well, they’ve blessed me with a new 7900gt today. i’m hoping it ends up working a little better than the last. we’ll see what happens. i’m starting the ambackup 3 development tomorrow. first comes the gui change w/ the same functionality, addition of backup zip, then ftp, then burn support.

my 7900gt started artifacting, i think the memory died, which is odd because i didn’t voltmod it. hopefully eVGA will overnight one to me ![]()
In order of increasing “coolness”:
- UPS found my videocard and delivered it, unharmed. That’s REALLY cool (thanks to Twanda and Maureen at UPS and to Jacob and Joe at eVGA).
- Said videocard was operated on by yours truely and after a 1.45v voltmod to the core, a Zalman VF900, and some copper Ramsinks, it’s running happily at 700MHz/1.8GHz (core/mem) — it’s REALLY fast.
- I was offered (and accepted) a job at a sweet company that writes a VM/API combination to run xplatform software on embedded/handheld devices. I start in a week or so and I’m VERY excited. Thanks to their offer, Heather now owes me a nice Chinese dinner (well, as nice as take out can be, anyway).
- Since I will be working full-time over the summer, I’ll be able to pay for my tuition directly rather than relying on student loans for my last semester at tech (Heather’s excited that I can help with the bills again, but she knows I’ll be her “sugar-daddy” when I graduate, regardless).
- AmroCorp was founded today (yea not really, but maybe in 5-10 years…watch out NTI, Symantec..with your mediocre backup software)
I think my video card is in another dimension–with the millions left socks that are lost in laundry process each year. The other theory is that it was swallowed by a brown sarlacc pit. Both seem likely. I wonder how many complaints the BBB gets about these guys? I’d like to answer the question they ask during their commercials: “brown can eat my video card.” ![]()
