Good times lately
Filed Under Life | Leave a Comment
So the wife took me out to FireHouse subs the other night, good stuff. She’s been extremely nice to me lately and just taking care of me more than usual because of the time I’m spending at work and such (making my lunch and other such things that she doesn’t really need to do, thanks honey).
The new job’s going well. My boss is pretty damned cool, it’s like talking to a good friend and he and the CTO (who’s also a pretty cool guy, but I see less of) are understanding. The work I do there is documentation stuff (writing code snippets, testing things, some descriptions and usage directions, etc.), which is fine, but probably not going to be where I throw myself post graduation (I want to code). . .but at least I’ve tried something different and know that it isn’t horrible or anything, besides the people at the place make up for it. It’s pretty neat stuff (.net to mobile platform integration via a custom VM per each of the major mobile OSes).
About the only thing I don’t enjoy about my job is the marta ride to and from..sure, it could be worse and at least they cover the monthly pass but sometimes the trains are rediculously far and few between, not to mention the random break downs as you are about to hop on to get home…and I suppose this isn’t related to my job as much as the travel to and from..so then it’s decided, I like my new job.

sleepy update
Filed Under Life, Tech | Leave a Comment
Yet again, I’ve sacrificed sleep to work on this backup software. As my friend Drew says, “Sleep’s overrated.” I wish I could believe you, Drew. At any rate, the FTP junk is mostly done, although I haven’t tested it and still need to hook it up to the “backup” button and some GUI update stuff.
It should upload directories, then search for the selected file types on the local drive and try to upload the file. If it fails (i.e. file exists), it tries to upload again w/ resume enabled. If it fails again, it tries to upload w/ resume disabled and overwrites the file. I’m expecting semi-competent people to use this feature..e.g. you pass it a directory to which you have write permissions..if you don’t, don’t expect me to magically hax0r your files onto some random FTP.
The last backup location for the copy backup will now be saved to the registry on exit (yay?) and although I haven’t implemented it (on the list of TODO’s), the same will be true for the last FTP settings. Donate via paypal to amrothegeek at yahoo dot com to keep a college student happy for writing this 4k line of code monster. I need to tidy up the code, but it’s under construction….so I’ll do that once the functionality is there.

Backup3 update
Filed Under Tech | Leave a Comment
Burning code has been cleaned up. I rid it of extraneous messages, implemented the new burn library so the memory usage is now much lower (while burning), made it so you cannot exit the application while burning, erasing, or saving an ISO prior to canceling the operation. Made it so you can cancel burn and erase operations (no way for me to cancel ISO saves, at this point).
Next on the list of fun stuff: ftp backup coding. I still haven’t decided on how this’ll work, yet.

More Backup 3.0b1 Updates

I’ve pretty much finished burning at this point, except for a memory issue (that is in the burn API i’m using). This issue should be addressed prior to release (waiting on an updated copy of the API. I should be able to start work on the FTP stuff shortly. Here’s another screenie to wet your appetites:
