I had a call-back from a company here in Atlanta while on my famed job search. The recruiter basically said it was way to early for them to look at me since I do not graduate until December and said he’d call me in November. I guess I am looking for a firm position prior to graduation so I can be at ease a bit more. It’s frustrating, but I suppose it makes sense from their point of view.

My friends in Alabama didn’t contact me within the two weeks they stated, so I contacted them and will see what happens — I guess I shouldn’t hold my breath, although I really liked the idea of working for them. Outside of telecommuting, I’m limited to companies in the Atlanta area. I don’t care if it’s application or game development — I have experience in both and enjoy both (EA Pogo would be reaaallly cool, for example). I wish the big V hadn’t been sold off — I loved that environment. The current place is cool too, but it’s a bit frustrating as I spend an hour going to and from work and there’s nothing to do when I get there (everyone’s working on some top secret project in groups or something).

I’m talking to yet another company and am waiting on information to schedule an interview — we’ll see how it goes. I suppose there’s a lot of time between now and December to find a company with which I can have a mutually beneficial relationship (e.g. good pay, great atmosphere, a job I enjoy).

Moving on, I think I might write and release either a small CD/DVD burning application or add scheduling to AMBackup. I don’t have a lot of time and already have the basics of the burning application finished, so I might just go with that. Next week, my semester-long projects will be ramping up into their coding phases, which will be exciting but stressful.

Things are going well on the home-front. Ramadan just started and that’s been a little rough, but things are going great otherwise. My old bank screwed up my account, somehow, so I switched to another one (it was not the first time they’ve given me poor customer service).

Edit: I’m not sad or upset, I just want to have a job lined up prior to graduating so I can hit the ground running, so to speak. The job search is frustrating in that companies sometimes do not reply promptly (and yes, I understand they’re probably dealing with tens of others as well).

Ok.  Weird Al is the man: Clicky.  Heather says “that’s a hybrid of you and Drew.”

I put up a new, tiny app on the Other-Apps page. It simply resets your Windows XP TCP/IP settings (much like WinsockFix). I also added an installer for those of you using AMNICRestart, which sets it up properly including a shortcut in the startup folder so it starts with Windows. It’s really only useful for always-on computers connected to a network via wifi with problems staying connected.

What simple (and small) freeware application do you need? Let me know via the Contact form!

So I had an interview today w/ a company based out of Alabama. I think it went well, and they’re going to fly me out to see their headquarters and stuff in a few weeks. It’s a small company, but I  really liked the people and their product is one that helps people, so that was equally exciting.

yea so i wake up today…and it’s like wow..i don’t want to wake up today.  i woke up, went to a meeting for my capstone class and we spent four hours working on the design of our project.  great.  could have taken less time, but whatever..we did what we could.

i come home and move onto my silly animation project..get it going blah blah.  anyway it’s time to go to the store, so i pick up my glasses and put them on..and they promptly SNAP in my freaking hands as i put them on.  i’m hardly a strong guy (i weigh something like 12 pounds or something and have the strenth of a mighty ant or four).  why’s this sucky? the glasses cost me $430.  someone please get me a bloody advil.  they are the supposedly indestructible magic dealies…but guess what, they BROKE — not my fault, but it’s irritating..well maybe it’s wear and tear —i just hope the retailer will cover them under warranty (do i have one?)–dunno, i just have my receipt.  drat.

I wrote a simple, silly speech app for fun.  Check out my little demo of the MS SAPI API by going to the Other Applications page.  It makes your computer speak :D.

Alas, I’ve started my job search.  I’m hoping to find a junior level development position in the Atlanta area — we’ll see how it goes.  I’ll start putting my resume up on the job sites in a bit, plus I’ll be attending the Career Fair at GaTech this year.

AMBackup 3.01 was downloaded over 500 times, from just my website, last month.  It’s also up on the C|net sites as well as a few other freeware websites.  That’s not too bad, keep it coming!  Hook your friends up with one of the best freeware backup apps out there!
