Meh, today I am having my last interview (hopefully for a little while) with another budding Atlanta company. They seem cool (from what I know) and also seem to be prosperous, which is a plus. I’m not sure what company I’ll end up going with yet — a lot depends on the offer and who it’s coming from. There are several things I consider important (how happy I would be doing the job — e.g. data entry and some other boring jobs are out as I’m looking for development positions, the salary, benefits, location or flexibility of the company, the general state of the company including stability, etc.) and hopefully I’ll have a few offers to choose from. I definitely have a preliminary ranking in my mind, but it’s still too early to say where I’d like to work. I don’t think I’ve interviewed anywhere I’d hate, but there are definitely places I’d prefer due to the office environment and other factors. I expect that I’ll start seeing offers this week — at least I hope so as I’d like to have a job lined up early on (well before I graduate). We shall see.
Heather’s out of town this weekend, leaving me plenty of time to relax (well, not really). If the interview today doesn’t last too long, I’m going to head over to Drew’s to watch the game. Tomorrow will pretty much be full school work and projects. I need to write the morphing project for my animation course as I haven’t yet started. I don’t think it’ll be too terribly difficult (just a little time consuming), however. I also need to go into work Monday, as I haven’t been in a week due to how busy I’ve been (interviewed with FOUR different companies this week — a total of 11 + how ever many people I end up interviewing with today).
In some ways, I’m bored without Heather here — she usually keeps me company and sane, although it is nice to have alone time here and there.

Companies with silly expectations, or better yet, companies that use arbitrary numbers as the basis for employment — learn to look at skills and experience people, it’ll do you well in the long run.

AMBackup 3.2
Filed Under Tech | Leave a Comment
I’ll be releasing AMBackup 3.2 sometime this weekend (I just need to find an hour to put in ZIP64 and the ability to save settings to a file). ZIP64 is highest priority, but I might also add drag and drop support for the burn screen.
Aside: AMBackup has been downloaded over 2000 times this year — not too bad as it hasn’t really hit the lime-light yet. I hope I can improve it tremendously over the next few months.

Good stuff

The job search is looking up: I have three interviews next week (two 2nd round, 1 first and only round) and am now talking to a total of 5 companies. It’s exciting because I think I’ll be able to make an informed decision without having to buckle in and accept a position I don’t want, although so far all of the companies have been very friendly and (from what I know) seem like they’d be great to work for. Wish me luck. As soon as projects cool down in my classes, I’ll get a new version of AMBackup w/ updated zip support, etc.

Small AMBackup 3 Zip Fix
Filed Under Tech | Leave a Comment
The zip library used in AMBackup 3 does not support Zip64. As such, AMBackup fails to zip anything over 2GB (zip32 supports file sizes up to 4GB, but the current library does not). This bug will be addressed in the next version of AMBackup, which will add Zip64 support for file sizes beyond 4GB. Another requested feature is the ability to save backup settings to a file — I’ll try to get that into the next build as well. The next couple of months will be hectic for me due to job interviews, projects, graduation, etc., but I’ll try to get a build out as soon as possible.

Today’ll be a good day

Indeed. I have one class, followed by doing some work from home (I couldn’t manage to squeeze it in Wednesday as I had to study for my exam), a little bit of cleaning up the apartment, and finally my younger brother and sister are coming over for dinner. It should be a nice, relaxing day.

Interviews galore
Filed Under Life, Work | Leave a Comment
Yikes. The past two weeks have been so busy for me. I’ve had interviews with a few companies now and one is asking me to come back for a second round. Another actually involved three interviews back-to-back the same day (today) — interesting. We’ll see how it goes. . .right now I just want to sleep (not getting enough of that lately). Well, I’m off to a group meeting for my capstone.
