I just received my AppEngine invite and wanted to give it a whirl, so I threw together a web-based AMChat using the AppEngine backend for Appcelerator that Mark Luffel wrote.  I came up with this.

Due to a lack of VC investment (inside joke from work ;)), AMChat is now free.  Grab a copy here — let me know if you need the jars for a *nix system.

AMChat is no longer freeware, but I’ve put a lot of great features into the latest version.  You can buy AMChat 2.0 at getamchat.com. It’s much more customizable than the original but still super simple to install and run.  Major props to my buddy Tyrus Smalley for the webdesign — you’re the man.  :)

The pricing will either be a flat fee for the server and some nominal amount per client or a low flat fee for the bundle including unlimited clients so stay tuned.  I’ll try to the information up sometime next week.

I’m starting a small company.  Initially, I’ll be selling a customized and (highly) configurable version of AMChat to 911 Call Centers.  This is just a side project, for fun and because I want the experience under my belt, so don’t worry about my day gig at Appcelerator.  Jeff and Nolan have actually been really supportive of the whole thing.  I’d really rather just sell it off but the software’s already in a great state and really to go so the time investment should be minimal.  I’m going to be selling licenses for very little money (relatively speaking) and I eventually hope to sell the technology off all together.

One call center has been running the software for about 3 months as a replacement to a chat system that came with their dispatch software — they love it.  Now I just need a company name..any suggestions?
